The British Superbike Championship, or the BSB for short, is the most popular and most highly-anticipated superbike championship in the United Kingdom. BSB, or more popularly known simply as ‘British Superbikes’, is an annual competition hosted by MCRCB-Events, with Stuart higgs as the Series and Race Director. MotorSport Vision has been awarded television and commercial rights. Each year, there are two cups awarded. One is awarded to the winning rider and the other one is given to the manufacturer. As such, several well-known names in the automobile manufacturing industry have been known to join this competition namely Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda, and Ducati. This competition has been around since 1988 with England’s Darren Dixon from the Suzuki Team as the champion. The last annual championship, BSB 2008, was held from April 20 to October 12. The champion was Shane Byrne from Team Ducati with a total of 474 points at the end of the competition. The 2008 championship saw some changes in the BSB’s rules and regulations. They were made to be more congruent with those of the World Superbike Championship. For one thing, all teams were required to purchase their tires from one supplier namely Pirelli. Dunlop also applied for the position of tyre supplier, but Pirelli beat them to the deal, earning a three year contract. Changes were also made so that the racing of 1200 cc V-twins against their 1000 cc four-cylinder counterpart was permitted. The next season, BSB 2009, started last April 13 and is scheduled to end on October 11 at Outlon Park.
